When I Am Afraid

Verse of the Day:

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. – Psalm 56:3 (ESV)

Introduction

Fear shows up in many different ways. Maybe it is the nerves before a big game, the pit in your stomach before a big test, or the worry of what people think about you on a daily basis. With any of these situations (and many more), fear is real — and sometimes it feels bigger than us.

Truth from Scripture

Psalm 56:3 gives us a simple yet powerful reminder: we don’t have to face fear alone. The psalmist doesn’t say, “I’ll never be afraid.” Quite the opposite. He admits that fear happens — but he also does us a HUGE favor by pointing us to what to do next: “I put my trust in you.” Trusting God doesn’t mean fear just disappears. It means that we lean on the One who is stronger than our fear.

Why This Matters for You

As a teen, you’re walking into a world full of pressures — school, friends, relationships, future decisions, and unexpected challenges. Fear WILL come. But you don’t have to let it control you. Trusting God means remembering that He’s bigger than what you’re facing. And the best part is that He will never leave you.

Encouragement for Today

Being afraid doesn’t make you weak. Even admitting that you are afraid doesn’t make you weak. It makes you human. The real question is: where will you turn when fear shows up? God is ready to be your peace, your strength, and your safe place. You don’t have to figure it all out on your own — you just need to lean on Him.

Challenge of the Week

When you feel afraid this week, pause and pray. Let God know that you are scared in whatever circumstance you are in. Let Him know that you are going to trust in Him and that you choose to lean on Him. Thank God for always being there for you through the good times and the bad.

Closing Thought

Fear may knock at your door. It may enter your house (body/mind). But you don’t have to let it stay. Trust in God, and let His presence get rid of the fear.
