Verse of the Day:
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
-Ephesians 2:10
The Question
Why am I here? What is my purpose?
It’s a question everybody asks at some point? We all want to know that our lives matter. We want to know that there is meaning behind our existence. The world tells us to find our purpose in success, popularity, relationships, and/or achievements. But even when we chase those things, we are never fully satisfied.
So, what IS our purpose? Why did God make YOU?
The Struggle
It’s easy to feel lost when you don’t know why you are here. Maybe you’ve thought, “I don’t know what I’m good at”, or “I don’t feel like I’m making a difference.”
The truth is, if we try to find purpose apart from God, we’ll always come up empty. Our purpose isn’t something that we “invent”. It’s something that we “discover” in the One who created us.
Just like a phone was designed to connect people and a guitar was designed to make music, you were designed for a reason. That reason begins with your Creator.
The Truth
The Bible tells us that our purpose is rooted in three big truths:
- You were created by God. On purpose and for a purpose.
You are not an accident. Psalm 139:13-14 says, “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” You were handcrafted by God with unique gifts, personality, and potential.
2. You were created to know God.
Your greatest purpose isn’t what you do, but who you know. Jesus said in John 17:3, “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” You were made in order to have a relationship with your Creator, to walk with Him daily.
3. You were created to make God known.
Once you know Him, your life becomes about reflecting His love to others. Jesus said, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
4. You were created for good works.
God has specific things that He has called you to do. Ephesians 2:10 says He prepared them in advance. That means that your life has assignments that only you can fulfill. Every act of kindness, every word of encouragement, every moment of service is part of your purpose.
The Response
Your purpose isn’t a mystery that God hides from you. It is a relationship that He invites you into. The more you know Him, the more clearly you’ll understand why you are here.
You don’t have to wait until you are older, richer, or more “spiritual” to live out your purpose. Start today! Love God! Love others! Use your gifts to serve. Trust that God will guide your steps. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
You were made ON PURPOSE, for His glory and for doing good.
Reflection Questions
- What are some ways you’ve tried to find purpose in things other than God?
- How does knowing you were created by God give your life meaning?
- What is one way you can live out your God-given purpose this week?
Prayer
Father, thank You for creating me with purpose and value. Help me to remember that my worth isn’t in what I do, but in who I belong to. Show me how to use my life to know You, love You, and make You known to others. Amen.
